We started our Motivation Monday series at the beginning of the month, and it seems as if you lovely lot love your quotes as much as we do. We talked about achieving goals and focusing on the little things in life.

Since autumn has officially kicked in, we’re turning our attention to our autumn/winter wardrobes. We discuss the best places to find style inspiration, including Pinterest and our best friend’s wardrobe, of course! Plus, we reveal what’s at the top of our shopping list with our latest Topshop wishlist. Sense a monochrome theme?

Where to Find Style Inspiration

As we enter a new season (it’s officially Autumn now!) it’s time to start thinking about some of our favourite autumnal activities – sipping hot chocolates by the open fire, crunching the freshly-fallen leaves and switching to chunky knitwear and ankle boots all in the name of fashion. A new season can present a ‘I don’t have anything to wear’ moment, and it’s time to stock up on this season’s trends. Here, we offer tips on where to find style inspiration.

Pinterest: Not only is Pinterest great for collecting quotes and dreaming about white interiors, but we love pinning latest style secrets. The world of Pinterest can be a bit of a minefield, so we recommend searching for your favourite celebrities who bring it when it comes to fashion. A few of ours include Olivia Palermo, Emma Stone and any Blair Wardorf fashion material.

Your Wardrobe: Despite having regular ‘I don’t know what to wear’ dilemmas, our wardrobes are full of hidden gems that have been stuffed to the back and forgotten about. A wardrobe detox can do wonders – make sure your clothes are stored in a way that you can see them all, so you know exactly what you have.

Blogs: Our favourite destination for style inspiration comes from fashion blogs, especially those with high quality photography. Our blogroll is full of great fashion bloggers including Sisters of Style.

Your Friends’ Wardrobe!: Just by admiring what your friend is wearing, you can pick up a lot of ideas of where to shop for your next spending spree and new ways to style certain items together.

Motivation Monday: Collect Memories

Motivation Monday Collect Moments

Here at Iconemesis, most of us love nothing more than a Saturday afternoon spent shopping, or a quick stop at our local Boots during our lunch break. We can’t be the only ones, right? We’re all guilty of getting wrapped up in a bit of materialism, whether it’s lusting after the latest Michael Kors watch or designer handbag. We’ve definitely been there, done that – after all, we’re all human. But more often than not we tend to remember the big events (birthdays, holidays, anniversaries) not by what gifts we received but by who was there, what we did and how we felt. It’s the little details in each event that make it what it is – the designer watch is just a bonus to that, not vice versa. This quote pretty much sums it all up. It’s also pretty apt for travelling too, so next time we go abroad, we’ll be taking lots of Instagram-worthy photos but leaving the cheap fridge magnet and tea towel behind.

Topshop are hitting the ball out of the park with their autumn/winter pieces at the moment. Whilst our wardrobes will thank us, our bank balances are going to take a hit this season. As you can see, we’ve definitely fallen for the monochrome trap – stocking up on staples and neutral coloured pieces is a great way to build up the capsule wardrobe.

Highlights of London Fashion Week

As London Fashion Week has drawn to a close for another season, we reflect on our favourite moments of the week at Somerset House, and what to expect for next season. Time to get the notepad at the ready…

Sports luxe played a big part in London; expect chic leisurewear in a layer-on-layer style come spring/summer. Rag & Bone, Alexander Wang and Richard Nicoll all showcased this look, with collections that epitomised the laid back feel with perfect execution. We embraced a trip back to the nineties as Burberry put the trench coat aside as the denim jacket had its moment. House of Holland also placed emphasis on the nineties – bright hues and prints dominated Henry Holland’s collection. Finally, Narciso Rodriguez hit the nail on the monochrome head with a collection inspired by water to demonstrate designs that ooze simplicity and femininity. Clean cut lines were a big feature.

Of course, we couldn’t forget the fact that we got to meet some of you lovely lot at Somerset House this year – thank you for coming to say hello, and we hope you like your iPhone cases!
