Highlights of London Fashion Week

London Fashion Week 2014

As London Fashion Week has drawn to a close for another season, we reflect on our favourite moments of the week at Somerset House, and what to expect for next season. Time to get the notepad at the ready…

Sports luxe played a big part in London; expect chic leisurewear in a layer-on-layer style come spring/summer. Rag & Bone, Alexander Wang and Richard Nicoll all showcased this look, with collections that epitomised the laid back feel with perfect execution. We embraced a trip back to the nineties as Burberry put the trench coat aside as the denim jacket had its moment. House of Holland also placed emphasis on the nineties – bright hues and prints dominated Henry Holland’s collection. Finally, Narciso Rodriguez hit the nail on the monochrome head with a collection inspired by water to demonstrate designs that ooze simplicity and femininity. Clean cut lines were a big feature.

Of course, we couldn’t forget the fact that we got to meet some of you lovely lot at Somerset House this year – thank you for coming to say hello, and we hope you like your iPhone cases!

Shopping the New In Section

fashion - new in

Today’s amalgamation of items we’re coveting comes from the ‘New In’ sections of some of our favourite retailers. We’ve become so accustomed to the ‘New In’ page, we’re clicking on it daily to feast our eyes on the latest of the newbie bunch.

The Trousers. Topshop brings it when it comes to patterned trousers, and we love these dogtooth leggings for sprucing up a monochrome outfit. Thick enough to wear as trousers, teamed with a white tee it’s effortless fashion in the blink of an eye. Topshop Dogtooth Leggings, £25.

The Dress. It’s summer, and we’re still not over these floral patterns that keep popping up on the scene. This floral print skater dress is on the top of our wishlists, thanks to its versatility – pair it with some nude heels for an evening look, or brown sandals for a picnic with friends at the weekend. New Look Floral Skater Dress, £14.99.

The Clutch. The Topshop Saffiano Zip Pouch is the perfect solution for all those times when it’s just not necessary to lug the entire contents of your bag with you. Big enough to house all your essentials, it’s ideal for evenings out with friends or a quick nip to the shops. It also comes in a floral version, and at £8, quite frankly it would be rude not to. Topshop Saffiano Zip Pouch, £8.

The Boots. Even though summer is in full bloom, we’re suckers for ankle boots and skinny jeans which is why we’ve added these Topshop boots into the mix. With barely a heel, these will be perfect come autumn once the rain starts to make an appearance. Groan. Topshop BLIGHTY Chelsea Boots, £45.

The Skincare Product. The HealGel range has been carefully curated by leading surgeons to develop a range of products that combat a myriad of skin concerns. We were instantly drawn to this as a post-sun treatment, aimed to heal and soothe the skin. We’ve also heard it’s great for dry skin (goodbye, dry elbows!) and reducing bruising. HealGel Body, £39.50.

How to Dress like Mollie King

mollie-king-styleHow to Dress Like Mollie King

Shorts: Oasis // Trousers: Topshop // Blue Cami: Topshop // Pink Cami: New Look // Skort: Warehouse

As we move into summer, our style has transitioned away from knitted jumpers towards lighter layers and bold prints. It seems that there is no one else who does it better than our current style inspiration, the lovely Mollie King from The Saturdays. Mollie always looks immaculately dressed, with a wardrobe that focuses heavily on loud prints. These Topshop Abstract Shadow Floral Joggers or this skort from Warehouse (£35) seem like the perfect way to channel your inner Mollie King. Her love for prints and patterns is balanced out with plain tops, lending for a sophisticated look that is well put together. Different coloured camis are a great and inexpensive way to update a look. Of course we couldn’t write an ode to Mollie’s style without a nod to her recent collaboration with Oasis – can we just buy the whole collection please? We love these Oasis Tropical Forest Shorts (£35) teamed with a colourful cami. Finish off your Mollie inspired outfits with matching accessories, and voila, you’ll be turning heads.

Our Favourite Blog Reads | June

Today’s post is another round up of our favourite blogs this month; the blogs we just can’t get enough of and yes, we’re guilty of reading all of our favourite blogs before we’ve even checked our emails. Whoops.

blog-reads-1

Chapter Friday: We absolutely love Yara’s blog for its aesthetically pleasing layout and informative content. Want to stop spending so much? Read Yara’s Easy Ways to Stop Overspending post, a no-nonsense and to-the-point guide.

Amelia Liana: As one of three blogs that we will always check daily without fail, Amelia has opened our eyes to many wonderful brands (Goldfaden MD, we’re looking at you!) and as a result, the purse is feeling a lot lighter. We love her weekly Budget Buy posts, which is partly the reason why our Boots Advantage Card is the most used store loyalty card.blog-reads-3

I Covet Thee: If we could have a blogger’s hair and fashion sense, we’re pretty sure Alix would be a top contender. With immaculate photography, we just love the written and visual content of Alix’s blog – a mix of beauty posts with some lifestyle ones thrown in too. Don’t forget to check out her YouTube channel – although with flawless bare skin like hers, you’ll soon experience serious skin envy like us.

Don’t forget you can read all of our previous Favourite Blog Reads posts here. Blog reading marathon? Let’s go.

Summer Travels: Holiday Packing

summer holiday

After revealing our in-flight essentials on Wednesday, it’s now for the second serving in our Summer Travels feature; our three favourite picks and essentials for any summer holiday. We offer up three pieces to take you from the departure lounge to the beach in style.

We love Topshop’s collection of bikinis, and at the moment we’re finding ourselves flocking towards anything that’s mint or turquoise in colour. This Topshop bikini with the scallop edges is perfect, offering the right amount of support without compensating in terms of how flattering it is. There are many similar ones on their website, and we also love this Topshop bikini too. For a light cover-up on holiday, a loud printed kimono is exactly what the doctor ordered. This New Look kimono fits the bill. No suitcase is complete without a suitable pair of sunglasses and we love these tortoiseshell ones from River Island. They are a stylish way to protect the eyes and face from UV rays, and these look far more expensive than they actually are.

What’s on your summer holiday shopping list?
